Schibsted Tech Talks #6

We are happy to invite you to another inspiring meetup created by engineers for engineers, but this time we will be in Gdańsk. 🌊🐟

👨‍🏫 17.00 – Subjectively about software testing by Paweł Tekliński

“We all make mistakes, and indeed, nobody likes them. Some of these mistakes are trivial, others costly, but there can also be dangerous ones. Every mistake affects the quality of the final product. It is essential to eliminate as many of them as possible. Based on my experiences, I will talk about how testing makes me more confident about my code, I save time, and even I could deploy on Fridays. 😉 I will share with you the CORD principle by which I deliver the software more safely. Also, using buzzwords such as TDD, BDD, Unit/Functional/Integration/E2E Test, Mock, Stub, Regression, Code coverage, etc., I will try to answer some questions:

  • Why do we so often not write tests?
  • When to write them?
  • What not to test?
  • To mock, or not to mock?
  • and others if there is enough time.

👨‍🏫 18.00 – Contracts aren’t only for the Devil by Błażej Kasperczyk

The words “we’re all family here, we don’t need to get formal” are a constant in the IT industry, quickly followed by “guys from THAT department/project need a quick fix again” – which, in turn, is followed by groans and cursing as workflows are interrupted and hours stack on things that should’ve been fixed long ago. The best defence against such moments is cast away as something “definitely not for us, that’s for those guys who deal with the customers” Let’s talk about why an SLA isn’t only for the guys on the phone with the customer because the website is down again.

As always after each part, we will have 💬 Q&A session. Pizza 🍕 craft beers 🍺 prosecco🥂

The meetup will take place on the 4th of October (Tuesday) in our office in Gdańsk (Olivia Business Centre, Olivia Star – Aleja Grunwaldzka 472C). Please note that the number of places is limited and the event will be held in Polish. We’re looking forward to meeting you!

Drink & Mingle

Tech Talks are not only about Tech. We take care of social aspects of the event as well. During breaks, and after the speeches you can meet new people with different backgrounds, share your experience or… talk with our employees about Schibsted Family of brands (obviously).
